Congress MLAs in Chhattisgarh today accused Chief Minister Raman Singh of misusing state government machinery, by using a state helicopter to ‘‘kidnap’’ Jharkhand MLAs and bring them to Chhattisgarh.

Deputy leader of the Congress Legislature Party Bupesh Baghel and former deputy speaker Dharamjit Singh raised the issue in the Assembly during Question Hour, quoting media reports that Forward Bloc MLA Bhanu Pratap Shahi alias Dehati had been brought to Raipur. The MLAs questioned the role of state Forest Minister Ganesh Ram Bhagat, who was allegedly asked to fly to Jashpur and bring the Jharkhand MLA to Raipur.

‘‘The Minister, instead of doing anything to catch three leopards on the prowl in the area surrounding the state Vidhan Sabha, preferred to net the Jharkhand MLA ahead of the confidence vote,’’ Dharamjit Singh said.

Neither the CM nor Home Minister Brij Mohan Aggarwal, however, responded to the charge. Only last Friday, ruling party MLAs had stalled the House proceedings to protest against Jharkhand Governor Syed Sibtey Razi and Congress president Sonia Gandhi over installation of the Shibu Soren government in Jharkhand though the NDA had majority support in the Assembly.

Meanwhile, there are reports that Bhanu Pratap Shahi has either been moved to a secret place in Chhattisgarh or taken to Jaipur.
