February 12: Bowing to the directives of the state election commission, Ram Naik, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from North Mumbai constituency, has changed the name of his `Ram Rath’ to `Ram Naik Rath’.
Naik finally decided to bury the controversy with the commission and continued campaigning in his constituency today. However, he said he did not agree with chief election officer Dr D K Sankaran’s directive in principle, and that he was changing the name under pressure. “I don’t want to waste my time at this crucial juncture and will pursue the matter with the election officer after the elections,” he said. Naik, however, does not rule out going to court after the elections if the election officer does not find an amicable solution to the problem.
