Jaipur, Aug 30: With the Election Commission scheduling the by-elections for the Dausa Lok Sabha seat and the Lunkaransar assembly constituency of Rajasthan for September 29, preparations for the battle have started in both the Congress and the BJP camps here.

The two seats fell vacant due to the deaths of Congress members — former Union Minister Rajesh Pilot (Dausa) and Bheemsen Chaudhry (Lunkaransar) — in road accidents.

The state BJP election committee, according to party sources, is likely to meet here on September 3 to consider the names of the contenders for the two seats. Sources said the meeting would have been held earlier, but former chief minister Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and national vice-president Ram Dass Agrawal are presently away.

The Congress election committee meeting, though not fixed yet, is expected to take place around the same time.

However, there is not much suspense about candidates as far as the Congress is concerned. The party is likely to field Pilot’s widow Rama and Chaudhry’s son Veerendra Beniwal from Dausa and Lunkaransar respectively.

Rama Pilot is presently a member of the Rajasthan Assembly from the Hindoli constituency of Bundi district. According to party sources, she has already indicated to the party that she is inclined to contest from Dausa. Veteran leader Nawal Kishore Sharma, a former MP from Dausa, who would have been normally keen on getting the party ticket, is disinterested for two reasons. One, he is already a MLA. Two, the present public mood favours Pilot’s widow.

BJP leader Rohitashv Sharma, a former minister, lost to Pilot by a narrow margin in the last election. The party may field him again. In case the choice falls on someone else, the BJP may consider the names of formerminister Ghanshyam Tewari, Kirori Lal Meena, MLA, and youth leader Pranvendra Sharma.

As for Lunkaransar, the BJP is likely to put up former minister Manik Chand Surana.
