MUMBAI, SEPT 18: India's underworld continued to spill on the streets of Bangkok while Chhota Rajan, injured in Friday's shootout, was flown to Malaysia in a chartered flight today. Two days after one of the most planned hits in Mumbai underworld's history, a jeweller, who was suspected to have tipped off Chhota Shakeel about Rajan's whereabouts, was killed in Bangkok this afternoon. Two others were injured in the daylight shootout, sources said.According to sources, the jeweller was a key link in the chain of informers who led members of the Karachi-based Shakeel gang in the rival's trail. It is still not clear whether the two injured associates of the jeweller had any role to play in the attack on the terrace party at Rajan's trusted lieutenant Rohit Verma's bungalow in downtown Bangkok. It is believed that a Mumbai builder was to meet Chhota Rajan and Rohit Verma to settle some matter at Bangkok. These facts were known to the jeweller, who is suspected to have passed on the information to members of the rival gang.Sources say that a Shakeel shooter code-named Feroz was sent to Bangkok about three months ago to plan the killing. It was not difficult for the hit squad to track down Rohit Verma because of his lavish lifestyle.Though the Shakeel shooters had spotted Rohit Verma three times in a car on the streets of Bangkok in the last 10 days, they did not attack him. They waited for Chhota Rajan, who was supposed to visit the Thai capital after the Ganesh festival.Members of the Rajan gang were taken by surprise when the gunmen appeared from nowhere sprayed bullets from their automatic weapons at the terrace party at Sukhumvit Soi 26.Sombat Kansompien, a night guard at Sawan Court, told the police that seven well-dressed men arrived in a car, two of them pointed guns at his head while the others walked up the second floor to Room No. C3. He then heard several gunshots before the men fled in the waiting car, the guard was quoted by Bangkok Post as saying.Even as the plot was being hatched, Shakeel had been spreading news that he had sent some shooters to Australia to finish off Rajan. This ploy proved effective and Rajan became a little careless during his Bangkok stint.Though Rajan survived the attack, six persons were killed in the shootout. They are Rohit Verma, his wife Savita and daughter, a bodyguard, the building's watchman and one Jadhav.Meanwhile, Rajan today was moved to a secret hideout in Malaysia after he was flown in a chartered flight by his wife Sujata and some key associates. Sources say that this was done by bypassing routine procedures. The Mumbai police was reportedly planning to ask for the extradition of the underworld kingpin even though India does not have a treaty with Thailand.
