Tussle between the department of telecommunications (DoT) and the defence ministry over spectrum has taken a new turn with DoT demanding Rs 5,000 crore from Defence for using spectrum. Citing the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885, the communications minister A Raja said that the communications ministry was the rightful owner of spectrum. He will meet defence minister next week to stake his claim over spectrum.
Defence on the other hand has informed the ministry that it would be able to vacate spectrum only if DoT is able to provide a dedicated network to the armed forces.
