Rains continued to lash Maharashtra on Thursday, affecting rail and road services, even as a teenager was killed and a woman injured in separate incidents here. Rail services continued to be affected with nearly nine trains, scheduled to leave the city, being cancelled.

In Nasik, River Godavari was overflowing at Sankheda and Chandori villages, from where 52 families were shifted. However, the water level of the river has receded as rain subsided last evening, Nasik Collector, Mahesh Zagder, said.

Lull in Gujarat rainfall; toll rises to 178

AHMEDABAD: Heavy rains which lashed parts of Gujarat over the past few days have subsided, except for Junagadh and Surat districts, as the toll rose to 178 in the region, officials said . ‘‘There was a lull in the rainfall since yesterday but it is set to revive in the state, especially south Gujarat in the next 48 hours,’’ state Met Department Director R.K. Kankane said.

In Junagadh district, five people, including four children drowned and three others were missing after a tractor, in which they were travelling, fell off a bridge following heavy rains, police said.

Thousands stranded at Jammu railway station

JAMMU: With over 3,000 passengers stranded at Jammu Railway Station, Northern Railway authorities have cancelled several trains, including Rajdhani Express, Malwa Express and Shalimar Express till August 7.

NR train services to be irregular till next week

CHANDIGARH: Railway services in North India would remain disrupted till next week due to damage to rail tracks following incessant rains, resulting in cancellation or diversion of trains bound for Chandigarh, Kalka, Jammu and Amritsar, a railway official said on Thursday.
