CALCUTTA, March 13: The entire first day8217;s play of the four-day Ranji Trophy Super League group-B match between hosts Bengal and Uttar Pradesh was washed out due to soggy ground condition at the CCFC ground here today.

Heavy overnight rain had left the ground soggy and a few wet patches close to the pitch forced the umpires to call off the day8217;s play at 1400 hours.

The two umpires R Parthasarathi of Chennai and K G Laxminarayan of Hyderabad inspected the ground conditions a few times before taking the decision to abandon the first day8217;s play.

With rains lashing the city in the afternoon, chances of play beginning tomorrow also look quite bleak.

Both Bengal and Uttar Pradesh have five points to their credit and even a draw would take them to the quarter final stage of the championship.

Maharashtra, the other team in the group, have six points from two matches.
