MUMBAI, MAY 17: Pre-monsoon showers continued to dampen the proceedings for the second day in succession of the 47th National Kabaddi Championship on Wednesday. The sizeable audience turned up to witness the day’s events at the Bhartiya Kreeda Mandir, Wadala thus had to return home disappointed.

The organisers, Banks Sports Board, efforts of going ahead with the day’s schedule were washed away with the heavy showers that lashed the megapolis this afternoon. Only 11 of the 24 matches could be completed on Tuesday and another 29 scheduled for today, the organisers would be hard pressed to complete the tournament on schedule.

However, a glimmer of hope had dawned late in the evening with a couple of matches getting under way.

On Tuesday, Hyderabad and Himachal Pradesh men were involved in a thriller with the former snatching victory by a solitary point. Hyderabad won the Group C encounter 22-21 after trailing 13-16 at the interval.

Indian Railways on of the challengers to BSB’s supremacy, crushed Goa 48-16 in a Pool B encounter. Karnataka too began in style overpowering Vidarbha 45-12 in Pool C while Andhra put it across Tamil Nadu 38-28.

The women’s section too witnessed some keen contests. Madhya Pradesh, who appeared hurtling towards defeat at the breather against Tamil Nadu, trailing 15-35. However, they came back strongly to turn the tables and emerge victors 46-44.

Kerala downed Uttar Pradesh 30-27 and Andhra routed Gujarat 63-23.
