A Arvind of Railways not only anchored his team to a relay gold in the men8217;s 4x100m but also to a new meet record on the penultimate day of the 46th National Open Athletics meet being held here at the Nehru Stadium.

The team of Vishal Saxena, Amit Saha, Vilas Neelgund and Arvind clocked 39.98 seconds to improve the meet mark of 40.22 seconds set last year by Railways. The women8217;s team also claimed the 4x100m relay title clocking 46.31 seconds.

Services team finished second in 40.87 seconds and the third place went to Jharkhand with a time of 41.98 seconds.

The Railway athletes also dominated most of the other events held today, with Krishan Punia upstaging her rivals to win the women8217;s discus throw event with a distance of 60.10m which was her career best. While Harwant Kuar representing Punjab was second with a throw of 54.35m came second and the much fancied Seema Antil was placed third with a mark of 54.20m.

They also had a clean sweep in the men8217;s javelin throw event with Gajender Kumar claiming the title with a distance of 75.06m. Anil Kumar and Om Naryan were second and third respectively with a throw of 73.96m and 71.88m.

Monisha Dey led the Railways domination in the women8217;s triple jump event by winning all the three medals at stake. Monisha jumped 13.33m while her teammates Salamma Antony with 12.70m and Kalpana Das 12.60m came second and third respectively.
