Three years after the Railway’s mooted the proposal for a Budget Hotel near the Chandigarh Railway Station, the project hangs fire. While the Expression of Interest (EoI) for the hotel was received by the interested parties three years ago, construction for the same has not taken off till today.
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC), the nodal agency for the project, failed to initiate the construction work despite the fact that the tender for the same was finalised in 2007 and the project was licensed to Zoom Developers, a Mumbai-based company.
“The project has not been able to take off as tenders for rates will be invited again at revised rates. As the rates of steel and cement have increased manifold in last few months, it is required to renegotiate the rates through financial bids with shortlisted company,” said Aneet Dulat Chief Regional Manager, IRCTC.
This is not the first time that the project hit a roadblock. Earlier, the project when interested parties wanted a guarantee from the land provider to ensure that the terms of land use do not change mid-way.
The Budget Hotel is proposed to have four floors, a food court and 60 rooms. The entire process of booking rooms will be done through Internet and rented out at controlled prices. Apart from food and lodging, services like cabs and taxis will also be provided to the visitors.
