Sensex jumps 118 points

MUMBAI: Bulls seem to have returned to the stock markets with a bang, pushing up share values and indices on stock exchanges all over the country. The fancied Sensex on Monday jumped to the 52-week high of 4478.19 amidst boom-like conditions.

CRPF man killed

IMPHAL: A CRPF head constable and a woman were killed and four others, including three women, were injured in separate incidents of violence in Manipur today. Official sources said that guerrillas, armed with highly sophisticated weapons, ambushed a CRPF party, belonging to the 23rd battalion, in Bishenpur district this afternoon. In the shoot-out that followed, a CRPF head constable was killed on the spot, the sources said. In another incident, armed Kuki activists raided Tama Naga village early this morning, killing a woman villager.

NEW DELHI: The Election Commission (EC) today told the Delhi High Court that it had no role to play in the internal polls of political parties even as the High Court issued fresh notices to the EC and all registered political parties regarding the same.

Bid on leader

JAMMU: Senior Congress leader Gulam Nabi Mir had a miraculous escape when security guards foiled an attempt by a militant to attack his house at Lasjan on the outskirts of Srinagar city last evening, sources said. The militant, identified as Tariq Ahmed, threw a grenade at his house. However, it missed the target.
