NEW DELHI, November 7: Eminent economist Bimal Jalan was today appointed the Governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in place of C Rangarajan who has been named as the Andhra Pradesh Governor. Jalan’s appointment was cleared by Prime Minister IK Gujral immediately after the Presidential order appointing Rangarajan as AP Governor. Finance Minister P Chidambaram said Jalan’s tenure will initially be for three years.
