Churhat case

BHOPAL: The one-man Justice BhaskaranCommission that probed the affairs of the Churhat children8217;s welfare society, has absolved former Madhya Pradesh chief ministers Arjun Singh and Motilal Vora. Justice Bhaskaran, in the report submitted on Friday, has concluded that the society was not guilty of any irregularities. While Singh was charged with having used the society8217;s money the society8217;s income to build his house at Kerwha dam near here, Vora was charged with granting income-tax exemption to the society.

Assam violence

GUWAHATI: The situation in strife-torn Kokrajhar district of lower Assam deteriorated on Saturday with armed groups of Bodo youths attacking two Santhal villages near Gossaigaon, leaving at least 14 persons dead. Violence broke out when a large group of Bodo youths set houses in two villages on fire and opened indiscriminate firing on helpless Santhals who were still in bed. While 10 persons died on the spot, four succumbed to injuries later. But unofficial sources said the casualties were likely to be higher.
