Enraged students of private universities on Friday stormed a meeting called by the additional chief secretary, demanding validation of their degrees instead of granting affiliation. Additional chief secretary (higher education) Indira Mishra had convened the meeting to build a consensus among the private universities for grant of affiliations.

While the meeting was half way, students gathered at the venue and raised slogans against the government and Chief Minister Raman Singh. A little after, they stormed the meeting and gheraoed senior officials of the higher education department. ‘‘It was quite an embarrassing scene for the officials,’’ said Major general (rtd) K. Jai Singh, vice-chancellor of Amity University. The students dispersed only after Mishra assured that the government would be ready with the draft model bill for the private universities in a week’s time and request UGC for joint inspections.
