A farmer from Nayagaon village has approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court claiming that the Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sanjeev Gupta, his family members and others have threatened him as they want to grab his land in the village. The petitioner has also apprehended threat to his life from the IGP.
Kuldip Singh, the petitioner, has approached the High Court seeking protection for himself and his family and registration of a case on charges of corruption, cheating, criminal conspiracy, forgery against the IGP and his family members. He has also requested the court to transfer the case to the CBI or the Punjab Vigilance Bureau.
Taking note of the plea, the High Court has issued notices to the Director of Vigilance Bureau (Punjab), Punjab DGP, Mohali SSP and Nayagaon SHO for November 6.
Kuldip owns 10 acres of land in Nayagaon village. He has alleged that his family is being harassed, as the IGP wants to grab his land to expand the illegal colony of Jasbir Singh Sandhu. Kuldip has alleged that the IGP, his son and brother-in-law have vested interest in the illegal colony, which is adjoining the petitioner’s land in Nayagaon village.
In his petition, Kuldip has claimed that on September 29, the IGP along with Jasbir Singh Sandhu and some people who were armed with guns, rifles, and other weapons tried to forcibly take possession of his land. Later following a protest by the villagers, the local police arrested some of the accused who are residents of Tarn Taran. The police had recovered three revolvers and four rifles from their possession.
However, the petitioner alleged that instead of registering a case against the accused, the local police buckled under pressure of the IGP and released the accused. Kuldip said he had submitted a complaint to the Vigilance Bureau Director but no action was taken.
