CHANDIGARH, Sept 29: The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee has sought action from Governor B.K.N. Chhibber to dislodge Harbans Singh Rai as the state Lok Pal “considering the fact that he has been a close confidant of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for a long time”.
In a letter to the Governor, Punjab Pradesh Congress chief Amarinder Singh listed various deeds of the Chief Minister showing his “favouritism” to Rai and his family. Continuation of a “Chief Minister’s man” as the ombudsman would force his party to boycott its proceedings, he noted in the letter.
Amarinder Singh said Rai was inducted as a High Court judge before his anointment as the Lok Pal. His son, Randeep Rai, was appointed Additional Advocate General after seven years of service when the prestigious post warranted a 10-year experience, he claimed. Randeep Rai, who is married to the niece of Chief Minister, is learnt to be a business partner of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s son, Union Minister of State for Industries Sukhbir Singh Badal, he added.
Further, Rai’s brother, Ramesh Inder Singh, was earlier taken in as Chief Minister’s principal secretary, and was now posted as Public Prosecutor (Home).
