PUNE, MAY 8: A new cross country paragliding record was set here today when Vijay Soni completed a 64 km flight between Bapdev Ghat and Morewadi in Baramati here on Sunday.
Taking off from Bapdev ghat, Soni covered a distance of 64 kms in a little over two hours and landed at Morewadi village, 10 kms off the Morgaon Ashtavinayak.
Flying in a straight line he gained a maximum height of 3121 metres above sea level. His flight route was from Bapdev Ghat crossing Kanifnath, Saswad town, Jejuri and finally landed at Morewadi. He was flying a Harley Eclipse glider manufactured in Pune.
His feat has been accepted by the Indian National Para Ascending Association. His flight was also recorded on the 4030 alti vario which is recognised by the world apex body of Federation of Aeronautic International.
With this feat he makes it to the top position in the INPAF recorder’s list. Incidentally, Soni who has been flying for the last four years, also holds the record for an endurance flight of 4 hours and four minutes in January 10, 1999 over Signal hill, Kamshet near Lonavala.
