DCB member held for threatening to kill wife
Dehu Road Cantonment Board member Nana Nagu Dhavre was arrested by the Pune rural police on Monday night after his wife lodged a first information report FIR claiming that Dhavre had threatened to murder her. He was granted bail after being produced before a judicial magistrate first class on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said Dhavre8217;s wife Anita had lodged a first information report FIR at Dehu Road police station alleging that Dhavre had threatened to set her afire on Monday evening. Dhavre was arrested by the sub inspector in-charge of Dehu Road police station Shirish Sasne later in the night.

Heavy rains lash city
The city and neighboring areas were lashed by heavy rains this evening affecting normal life. The city received 40.6 mm rainfall within just three hours after 5.30 pm.

Water gushed into several low lying areas and there were incidents of uprooting of trees. People returning to their homes from the offices were left stranded, while power supply and normal traffic was also disrupted. People out for shopping for the festive season were taken aback by the heavy rains which started at around 5.30 pm and lasted for about one hour. Light drizzles also continued later. In Pimpri-Chinchwad too heavy rains affected normal life.

MIT cyber centre
A 24-hour Internet Centre for the teachers and students of the Maharashtra Institute of Technology MIT Pune, and its website wpcpune.com were launched today.

Equipped with 30 Pentium III computers, conference room, server room with printing facility and full-time qualified staff, this centralised internet browsing facility may be open for the public also, on the basis of a week-end membership. Established at a cost of Rs 40 lakh in technical collaboration with the Education To Home ETH Research Laboratory, Pune, the Centre will be inaugurated on October 14, 11 am, at the hands of Prof K V Nori, executive vice-president, Tata Consultancy Services, Pune, and Dr Vijay Bhatkar, chairman ETH, will preside over the function, which will take place at the Sant Dnyaneshwar Hall, MIT campus.

PCMC water cut today
Water supply to the following areas in Pimpri-Chinchwad will remain closed on Thursday evening as the water supply department of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation PCMC is to undertake urgent repair works at Bhosari and sector number 20.

The areas are sector 21 Yamunanagar, Rupinagar, sectors 18, 19, 20 and 22, G block, Shaunagar, Kharalwadi, Pimpri Station, Bhosari, Ramnagar, Vidyanagar, Dattanagar, Mohannagar, Chinchwad station, Anantnagar slums, Kalbhornagar, Kasarwadi, Phugewadi, Ajmera, Masulkar colony, Sant Tukaramnagar and Nehrunagar. Water supply to these areas will be at low pressure on Friday morning, according to a PCMC press release.

Durga puja celebrations
The Bengalee Association, Pune will conduct its 19th Durga Puja celebrations at the Modern College grounds, Shivajinagar. The association representing about 400 members, play host to more than 1500 visitors daily during the Durga Puja. The six days of celebrations involve not only religious ceremonies, but cultural programmes as well.
