Cops urge PMC to shift 14 octroi posts
The traffic branch of Pune police has urged the Pune’s Municipal Commissioner to shift 14 octroi posts at present falling within the extended municipal limits to pave way for the parking areas under the pay-n-park scheme.
In a letter to the Municipal Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) V R Patil has requested the civic body to shift these 14octroi posts before the monsoon.
The letter, the copy of which was even released to the press by the Kumari Rajashri Parmar Memorial Foundation, also suggested that pay-n-park schemes can be started at the places where these octroi posts are located at the moment.
Among these 14 octroi posts were the posts at Nigdi and Phugewadi on Mumbai-Pune road, Bhosari on Pune-Nashik road, Ramwadi on Pune-Ahmednagar road, Vishrantwadi on Pune-Alandi road, Hadapsar on Pune-Solapur road, Kondhawa on Kondhawa road, Katraj on Pune-Satara road, Warje Malwadi and Balewadi on Katraj-Dehu Road bypass road, Aundh New Bridge (chest hospital) and Aundh on old Mumbai-Pune road, Vitthalwadi on Pune-Sinhagad road and Baner on Baner road.
While urging to create special parking lots for vehicles halting to pay the octroi at the new posts, the letter pointed out that the vehicles halting on road to pay the octroi and collect the transit passes were causing traffic congestion. Many a times, such vehicles eat away the carriage width of the roads posing major threat of accidents, it stated.
