Water scene has improved: collectorate
The number of water scarcity-hit villages in Pune district has shown a sharp decline going by the district collectorate figures. About 223 villages and hamlets in the district are on the list of tanker-fed villages in Pune district compared to last year8217;s figure of over 250 villages for the corresponding period, District Collector Vijay Kumar Gautam said on Friday.
The decline in shortage-hit villages could be attributed to several reasons, Gautam said adding that he already has launched a detailed survey of the villages which have not required the tanker despite being in the district action plan for the scarcity-hit villages.
Fifty five tankers have been pressed into service in the district including the highest 12 in Purandar taluka.
In a pragmatic move, the district collectorate has delegated the powers to the sub-divisional officers to sanction the tankered water supply on demand from the villages.
