Anna or Rawat as BJP candidate
The race for the Lok Sabha ticket has begun in Bharatiya Janata Party BJP with party workers suggesting the names of either former MP Anna Joshi or city unit president Pradeep Ravat. The workers, reportedly, made a strong demand for a change in candidate in Parvati assembly constituency.

BJP state general secretary Sharad Kulkarni and organising secretary Sukhdeo Navale on Friday talked to party activists to find out their views about possible Lok Sabha candidates for Pune and Baramati and also for assembly elections.

Kulkarni later told media persons that the party would select that candidate who would be in a position to attract the maximum votes and win the seat. quot;We want to win the maximum seats since the Vajpayee government fell because of a single vote, quot; Kulkarni said. When asked whether the party would nominate Joshi, who has been denied ticket earlier, Kulkarni replied that politics was always flexible.

Kulkarni said the party had set up its own machinery to evaluate the performance of sitting MLAs while opinions of local workers would also be considered while deciding the candidate. He said for Parvati assembly segments the names of Dilip Kamble, Vishwas Gangurde, Bapu Kambale, Vikas Kale and Anil Hatagale have been suggested by the workers. For Bopodi segments, the names of Vikram Rathod, Sahebrao Salunkhe and Dilip Deokar are in the race, he said.

The candidature of Girish Bapat from Kasba Peth segment is being considered as almost certain since his name was unanimously suggested by the workers. For Baramati constituency, the party was considering the names of Pratibha Lokhande, Balasaheb Gawde and Ankush Landge, Kulkarni said.

The sectors fall in the electronic zone of the PCNTDA and it was at these same sites that the PCNTDA authorities had initiated action two months back. The owners resorted to construction of temporary tin sheds at the same place. Contemplating similar protests during the action, a heavy police force accompanied the PCNTDA staff which comprised executive engineer S K Jadhav, N N Sawant among others.
