Dhole-Patil lodges complaint against Bhatia
Former mayor and leader of Nationalist Congress Party Ulhas Dhole-Patil has lodged a criminal defamation complaint against Pune Municipal Commissioner Arun Bhatia.

In his complaint, Dhole-Patil has stated that Bhatia had defamed him by providing false and baseless information to media concerning a public tap water installed by the municipal corporation.

Dhole-Patil has stated the the municipal corporation had installed public tap in Mundhwa near his cattle shed a few years back when there was a slum. He said the cattle shed of Kapila Dairy has two borewells and there was no need to use public tap water. Dhole-Patil has clarified that Kapila Dairy had paid water tax at the commercial rate to the corporation for the use of public tap in Koregaon Park.

Dhole-Patil has urged that a case be registered against Bhatia under section 167 and 500 of Indian Penal Code for defaming him.

Forgery charge against ex-DDC
A former Deputy Divisional Commissioner DDC has been accused of forgery in a complaint lodged with the Bund Garden police station on Monday evening.In an FIR lodged by Vishwas Bhosale, the present DDC Rehabilitation, Pune Division, it has been alleged that P N Bhapkar, the then DDC had forged papers to cover certain irregularities while issuing a print order for certain hand bills.

The FIR states that in June 1998 Bhapkar had awarded a contract for printing 16,000 hand bills to Bharat Mudran Mandir of Shukrawar Peth without floating the tenders. Later on Bhapkar allegedly forged papers to show that he had indeed followed procedure of releasing tender notice in the newspapers and sanctioned the tenders which had come after the advertisement.

According to the FIR, this was not possible because the papers showed that the everything had been done in a single day, which, according to the complainant, was not possible.

Interestingly, the FIR states the handbills were issued in the name of the Divisional Commissioner Arun Bhatia, who was then Divisional Commissioner. The whole contract, the FIR states, was worth Rs. 34,400. A case of forgery has been registered with the Bund Garden police and further investigations are on.

Demolition at Hotel Shantai
Anti-encroachment department of Pune Municipal Corporation PMC on Monday demolished 2,000 square feet of illegal portion of Hotel Shantai in Rasta Peth.

The officials said the basement and parking space of the hotel was being used for commercial purposes in violation of the Development Control rules. The PMC had sent notice to the hotel owner Prakash Mhaske, leader of Nationalist Congress Party asking him to remove the illegal portion of the building, but had to act as he failed to do so. The corporation had to pull down the illegal portion since the hotel owner did not remove it.

The squad also pulled down a shed at Hotel Dulari, also in Rasta Peth. The hotel owner had constructed 40 X 15 feet shed in the side margin.
