DCB backtracks on site rents
The Dehu Road Cantonment Board on Monday climbed down on its earlier proposal of increasing the site rents of lands given on verbal-grant in the main bazaar area.
According to a fresh proposal approved at the board meeting presided by board president Brig N S Sahaee, the DCB expects to get Rs 7.74 lakh instead of the earlier estimated revenue of Rs 14 lakh.
The bazaar committee, which had strongly opposed the sudden increase in rent, will discuss the resolution of the board meeting on Tuesday. The DCB had given land to 210 persons on verbal grant basis, and was getting an annual revenue of Rs 17,352 for the last forty years. The land invariably is being used for shops and houses. A severe financial crunch faced by the board since last one year had forced the authorities to increase the rent substantially. The traders however strongly opposed the proposal and had organised several protest agitations over the last two months.
