CHANDIGARH, Nov 19: The Punjab University Zone A Youth Festival was inaugurated by the Administrator, Lt Gen (retd) B. K. N. Chibber today. He lit the inaugural candle and released balloons in the sky. He also exhorted budding artists and other participants in the festival to hone their skills in the fields of their choice.

Anuradha Gupta, home and education secretary, Chandigarh presided over the evening session of the festival as students of all girls’ colleges of the city participated in various cultural items. Competitions would be held in items like shabad/bhajan, Indian orchestra, geet-ghazal, group song, debate, quiz, drama, classical dance, giddha etc. Also, It is for the first time that girls took part in singing "Vaar", the martial music of Punjab.

The results of the various cultural items in order of merit are:
