Both Hurriyat leader Abdul Gani Lone’s murder and the PM’s visit triggered protets in the Valley today. People stayed indoors for fear of violence during the so called ‘‘double hartal’’. The garrison township of Kupwara was sealed off today. According to reports, people were prevented from stepping out of houses.The Lolab valley that is home to 100,000 people remained cut off from the town. Shops and commercial establishemnts too shut down. Army and paramilitary personnel and policemen as also sniffer dogs were pressed into service on all routes to Kupwara.According to reports, around 4,000 people took out a rally against Lone’s killing from Haral and Saral and marched to Kralpora in Kupwara district. The demonstrators raised slogans for Lone and walked towards Srinagar to participate in his funeral. Srinagar and other major townships too were shut today.
