Protection for couple ordered

Chandigarh, May 1: Justice R. L. Anand of the Punjab amp; Haryana High Court today directed the SHO of police station Sector 11, Chandigarh, to protect the life and liberty of a couple Rajan and Sonia Sharma, of Chandigarh. The two had entered into matrimony on April 28 against the wishes of the girl8217;s father.

In a petition filed before the High Court by the couple, it was alleged that at the behest of the parents of the girl, the father of the boy B. L. Sharma was called at least four to five times to the Sector 11 police station and detained for many hours at a stretch.

It was further alleged that the girl8217;s brother Naval, along with his friends, has been on the lookout for the couple who apprehended danger to their lives from him. The court has also directed a copy of the order to be sent to Senior Superintendent of Police Chandigarh for information and compliance.
