The UP government has stopped the salaries of 379 secondary school teachers of Ballia district from this month. These teachers have been working for the past 10 years but the government says theirs appointments were illegal. Confirming the January 15 order, Special Secretary (Secondary Education) C.M. Shrivastava added: ‘‘A CB-CID inquiry is on against them,’’ he said. Under a Government Order, payment of salary cannot be stopped during the inquiry period. Interestingly, these teachers include even those whose appointments were declared valid by the high court. Teachers’ representatives have spoken to the Special Secretary and have threatened to move court if the government doesn’t review its decision.
