Samuel Eto’o has been included in Cameroon’s final World Cup squad backed by the country’s football federation after he threatened to skip the tournament following criticism by former great Roger Milla. “Following statements made in the media by some major figures of our football which disturb the serenity of our national team,the Cameroon Football Federation invites the public to remain united around the athletes of the Indomitable Lions,” said Cameroon Football Federation president Iya Mohammed.

Another blow for Germany

Germany’s Heiko Westermann has been ruled out of the World Cup,adding to the side’s growing list of injury problems. The German team said on Sunday that Westermann had been injured in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Hungary. Westermann is a defender but had also been seen as an option to cover in midfield following the injuries that have ruled out Michael Ballack and Christian Traesch.

World Cup ball appalling: Casillas

Spain’s Iker Casillas has joined the list of players expressing anger at the design of the ball to be used at the World Cup,with the Real Madrid player calling it “appalling.” “It’s sad that that such an important competition like the World Cup has such an important element like this ball of appalling condition,” Casillas said. Earlier,Brazil goalkeeper Julio Cesar had called the Adidas ball “terrible” and likened it to something from a “grocery store,” while Italy striker Giampaolo Pazzini termed the a “disaster.”

Evra ready to lead France

Patrice Evra has already captained Manchester United to victory this season and is now ready to lead France at the World Cup if Thierry Henry doesn’t win back his starting place. Evra wore the France armband for the first time on Wednesday night against Costa Rica and is likely to do so again. “It’s hugely satisfying,but not just when I’m wearing the armband,it’s when I am in the changing rooms,to see that the guys are behind me and proud of me,” Evra said.
