Indian womens hockey team has thanked Sports Minister M S Gill for the financial support extended by the government to the players after they went on a silent protest recently against the non-payment of their dues. The players sent a thank you card to Gill,acknowledging his support for them,a sports ministry official told PTI. The national women hockey players wore black armbands during a training camp in Bhopal recently in protest against the non-clearance of their pending dues and rewards for their last years performance. Moved by the plight of the players,the Sports Ministry had disbursed Rs 2.2 lakh from the National Sports Fund for the team besides distributing the Rs one crore given by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan among the players. The womens hockey team,led by Surinder Kaur,has sent a big thank you card signed to Dr Gill for extending the financial assistance, a ministry official said. The card has been signed by all the members of the team and it reads: Thank you for your support. Best wishes,Indian womens hockey team, he said.
