US adds 1,03,000 new jobs in Sept

Official data further showed that 57,000 jobs were generated in August against a preliminary projection that no new jobs were created during that month.

Besides,the economy was anticipated to see around 60,000 new jobs in September.

The rise in employment numbers was partially due to return to payrolls of about 45,000 telecommunications workers who were on strike in August.

“In September,job gains occurred in professional and business services,health care and construction,” the Labor Department said in a statement.

The encouraging employment figures comes amid rising concerns that the world’s largest economy could see prolonged economic slowdown and even recession.

The count of unemployed people stood at 14 million last month and jobless rate has been hovering around 9 to 9.2 per cent since April this year.

As per the statistics,the unemployment rate for adult men was 8.8 per cent last month while that for adult women stood at 8.1 per cent.

The number of long-term unemployed people – those without a job for 27 weeks and more — was 6.2 million in September.

“These individuals accounted for 44.6 percent of the unemployed,” the statement noted.
