Unemployed single women in the Netherlands have reasons to smile — they are being offered a 1,150-pound fashion and beauty makeover and a membership to a dating agency in order to help them find a solvent husband.
Under the scheme, single women jobseekers will be given a new hairstyle and outfit, and tips from a life coach on how to attract a new partner or a job,and offered a place on an exclusive matchmaking website called Mens & Relatie.
They will also have professional photographs of their new image to boost their dating profile under the scheme which is being offered by three councils in Friesland,in the north of the Netherlands,’The Times’ reported.
The thinking behind the scheme is that if 70 women find a solvent husband, the councils can save 330,000 pounds on welfare payments and that finding love will help get the unemployed off state benefits by improving their ambitions.
So far,one candidate has signed up for the voluntary scheme, which is aimed at women but open to men as well.
“This is a total concept of trying to get people out of social security. We know from national statistics that people in a relationship have better health, more happiness, make more money and live longer lives.
“They make less use of medical systems and social security. So in Friesland they thought,we can try to get people out of social security by bringing them to a nice new husband,” Radboud Visser, the site’s Managing Director, said.
He added: “I am sure that people who have done this will be on social security for less time because they will find a job and a partner.”
