Japan tour invite for Bhullar
Gaganjeet Bhullar has earned a special invitation to compete at the Japan PGA Championship to be held at the Passage Kinkai Island Golf Club,Nagasaki from May 13 to 16. The 22-year-old Kapurthala pro,the second highest ranked Indian golfer,has been handed the special invitation by the Japan Golf Tour Organisation for his consistent performances.
Madrid win to keep La Liga open
Barcelona and Real Madrid secured thrilling wins to make sure the Spanish title race will be decided on the final weekend of the season. Barcelona nearly threw away a three-goal lead before beating Sevilla 3-2 with goals from Leo Messi,Bojan Krkic and Pedro Rodriguez. Madrid had a devastating second half to beat 10-man Athletic Bilbao 5-1,with Cristiano Ronaldo,Gonzalo Higuain,Sergio Ramos,Karim Benzema and Marcelo all scoring. Barcelona go into the final weekend on a record 96 points,one more than Madrid.
Inter made to wait by Totti
Inter Milan will have to wait until the final weekend of the Serie A season to wrap up their fifth consecutive title,despite beating Chievo Verona 4-3 on Sunday. Francesco Totti kept AS Romas hopes alive of overtaking Inter by scoring twice to help his team won 2-1 win over Cagliari. That leaves Roma still two points behind Inter. Inter travel to play Siena,while Roma are away to Chievo next weekend. If they finish level on points,Roma will take the title on head-to-head record.
Henin,Sharapova stunned
Four-time French Open champion Justine Henins preparation for Roland Garros suffered a shuddering jolt with a 4-6 7-5 6-0 defeat by Frances Aravane Rezai in the Madrid Open first round. Maria Sharapova was another former world number one to fall at the first hurdle,the Russian 11th seed going down 6-4 6-3 to Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic.
