The Vancouver Olympics will serve as a blueprint for future games,International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge said on Tuesday. Three days before the opening of the games,Rogge praised Vancouver organisers for their policies on the environment and long-term use of facilities. He singled out organizing committee VANOC,which had to cope with the global economic downturn.
VANOC and its partners rose to the challenge without compromising the original vision for these games. That vision has established new standards for environmental sustainability and legacy planning, he said. The lessons learned here are a blueprint for future games.
Another Rd 1 exit for Sania
Indias Sania Mirza squandered a one-set lead before crashing out of the $ 220,000 Pattaya Open with a first-round loss to German Tatjana Malek here on Wednesday.

Delhi to host 2012 SA Games
Delhi will host the next South Asian Games in 2012 to ensure that the infrastructure being developed for this years Commonwealth Games remains in use,the sports ministry said. The Ministry made it clear that the host city should be Delhi as the South Asian Games will be the perfect opportunity to utilise the huge infrastructure that is being raised for the Commonwealth Games, a sports ministry official said. India was picked to host the regional event after Bhutan,whose turn it was to host the next SAG,expressed its inability to stage the meet.
Man City,Fulham win
Manchester City beat Bolton 2-0 and moved up to fifth place in the Premier League on Tuesday. Carlos Tevez put City ahead with a penalty won by winger Adam Johnson and Emmanuel Adebayor smashed in a powerful 71st-minute shot from a pass by Patrick Vieira.
Victory took City to 44 points,the same as Liverpool. In Tuesdays other games,Fulham beat Bolton 3-0,Sunderland drew 1-1 at Portsmouth,and Stoke drew 1-1 at Wigan.
Barca deny Fabregas talks
Barcelona denied on Wednesday it is negotiating with,or has reached any agreement to sign,Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas. Due to the exceptional repercussions created by news that has appeared in different press concerning an agreement with Arsenal FC player Cesc Fabregas,Barcelona roundly denies any negotiations or agreement with the player, Barcelona said in a statement on its website.
Reports of a deal have appeared daily since Arsenals 2-0 defeat to Chelsea. Barcelona daily Sport said on Wednesday that the club was set to sign the midfielder on a five-year contract.
Dunga keeps out Ronaldinho
Ronaldino was left out of Brazils final friendly before the World Cup despite pressure from fans on coach Dunga to select the midfielder. Ronaldinho was not among the 22 players called up by Dunga on Tuesday for the Ireland friendly in London on March 2. It will be Brazils last match before the World Cup in South Africa in June. Dunga said Ronaldinho was in the running for the World Cup,but he needed to keep performing before the final squad will be announced nearly three months from now.
