Despite a poor start to the season,Maharashtra are determined to go for full points when they take on a star-studded Saurashtra in their Ranji Trophy match at Rajkot beginning on Tuesday.
Maharashtra lost to Bengal in their opening encounter but skipper Harshad Khadiwale is confident of his teams preparation ahead of the match, after an intense training camp in Pune. We practiced for ten days at home and for the past two days in Rajkot,so we are used to the conditions,he said. He added that the team would be looking to improve on the mistakes made in the first match and come back with a good result. Our batting and fielding has been below standard, and we will be looking to get better in those areas,he said.
With one of the youngest sides in Ranji Trophy the average age is less than 21 their youth and inexperience lost them the match against Bengal, said Maharashtra Cricket Association president Ajay Shirke. But he added that the team will bounce back strongly. We are looking to build a side for the future and are happy with their performance thus far. We had a good outing in the T20 matches against Baroda and Mumbai and the Bengal loss was just a blip. We are confident enough to make a good comeback,he said.
Shirke also said that the arrival of international players Ravindra Jadeja and Cheteshwar Pujara into the Saurashtra team will in no way affect the confidence of his team, adding that the players are highly motivated and do not lack in talent. We have imbibed the ideals of self belief in our cricketers and will not fear any international cricketer that comes our way,he said.
Saurashtra had drawn their opening game against Uttar Pradesh and have one point so far.
