Real Madrid tops football’s rich list for sixth straight year

Real’s arch-rivals Barcelona retain second spot ahead of Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

Real Madrid has topped the league table of the world’s 20 richest football clubs for the sixth straight year with a fortune of 438.6 million euros,according to Deloitte.

According to the rich list,Real’s arch-rivals Barcelona (398.1 million euros) retained second spot in the list,ahead of Manchester United (349.8 million euros) and Bayern Munich (323 million euros).

Arsenal (274.1 million euros),Chelsea (255.9 million euros) and Liverpool (225.3 million euros) were fifth,sixth and eighth respectively.

Manchester City were the biggest climbers,up from 20th to 11th place.

Seven of the top 20 in Deloitte’s list were from England,the other two being Tottenham Hotspur (12th),and Aston Villa (20th).

All the 20 clubs represented are from the “big five” European leagues,with Germany contributing four clubs,Italy four,Spain three and France two.

Dan Jones,of Deloitte’s sports business group,said that the list,based on season 2009-10,showed that the combined revenues of the 20 clubs had passed four billion euros for the first time.

“The top 20 clubs have a combined revenue now of 4.3 billion euros and this rise is likely to continue next year,” the Sun quoted Jones,as saying.

“Overall these figures show remarkable growth despite the recession,” he added.

The top ten clubs:

1. Real Madrid: 438.6m euros

2. Barcelona: 398.1m euros

3. Man Utd: 349.8m euros

4. Bayern Munich: 323m euros

5. Arsenal: 274.1m euros

6. Chelsea: 255.9m euros

7. AC Milan: 235.8.m euros

8. Liverpool: 225.3m euros

9. Inter Milan 224.8m euros

10. Juventus: 205m euros
