Rana’s trial rescheduled for Feb next year

The trial of Tahawwur Hussein Rana,charged with involvement in the Mumbai attacks,has been rescheduled for February 14 next year.

The trial of Pakistani-Canadian terror suspect Tahawwur Hussein Rana,charged with involvement in the Mumbai attacks,has been rescheduled for February 14 next year.

The trial hearing has been rescheduled for February 14 next year from November 1,2010,Rana’s lawyer Patrick Blegen said.

“We wanted to wait and see how much discovery we are going to get,” Blegen added.

The new trial date reset is based on the amount of evidence that has been tendered.

Other things discussed in the hearing was setting of date for filling of motion under the classified information procedure act and also more details on the charges.

Next hearing of the case will take place on August 25.

Earlier,during Rana’s status hearing in US District Court on May 11,Judge Harry Leinenweber had set November 1 as a “tentative” date for commencing the trial of the 49-year-old terror suspect,after both prosecution and defence lawyers agreed to it.

Rana was indicted on February 15 by a federal grand jury here along with American citizen David Coleman Headley on charges of preparing the groundwork and providing material support for the LeT to carry out the Mumbai terror attack.

In its 12-count superseding indictment against Headley and Rana,the jury gives extensive details of the planning of the Mumbai attack by the LeT and how its leaders guided the terrorists during the four-day siege beginning November 26,2008 that killed 166 people,including six Americans.

His co-accused,LeT operative David Coleman Headley,had pleaded guilty in March to plotting the Mumbai terror attacks.
