Positive dope test at CWG unfortunate: Vijender

The reaction comes India's Rani Yadav was tested positive and been provisionally suspended from the Games.

Olympic bronze medallist Vijender Singh on Wednesday said it was unfortunate that Indian athlete Rani Yadav flunked a dope test in the Commonwealth Games and hoped that it was not intentional.

India’s 20-km woman road race walker Rani Yadav has tested positive for a banned anabolic agent and been provisionally suspended from the Games.

The athlete had finished sixth in the walk race conducted on October 8 in 1 hour,42 minutes,54 seconds.

Vijender said he hoped that it was a mistake on part of the athlete.

“Mistakes do happen but if somebody does such a thing intentionally,it is wrong. It is unfortunate,” he said at a press conference here.

Earlier, the CGF issued a statement to confirm that Yadav’s dope test had returned positive.

“The CGF can now confirm that the A sample of Ms Rani Yadav,a competitor in the womens 20 kilometre road race on October 9,2010,was found to contain 19-Norandrosterone,a prohibited Anabolic Agent under category S1 of the WADA List of Prohibited Substances and Methods.
