Earlier, the players were omitted from the Pakistan squad for the rest of the England tour.

Hasan said the players requested they be allowed not to play the remainder of the tour “on account of the mental torture which has deeply affected them”.

Hasan told reporters after a meeting with captain Salman Butt, and bowlers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif that the trio had suffered mental torture and were not in the right frame of mind to play.

The commissioner added he believed in their innocence and Pakistan could take legal action to defend them.
