No points from Abu Dhabi,Force India finishes 7th

Sutil, who started 14th at the grid, finished one-place above as he ended the eventful race 58.3 seconds adrift of the winner and 2010 F1 champion Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull.

Adrian Sutil finished 13th while team-mate Vitantonio Liuzzi retired after his car crashed with Michael Schumacher’s mercedes as Force India failed to collect a single point from season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and end the Formula One championships at seventh.

Sutil, who started 14th at the grid, finished one-place above as he ended the eventful race 58.3 seconds adrift of the winner and 2010 F1 champion Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull, who collected 256 points, four more than Spaniard Fernando Alonso of Ferrari.

Liuzzi,on the other hand, had to retire after his car crashed into Schumacher’s after the former seven-time champion German’s mercedes came into his way.

Schumacher’s car was spun around by his teammate Nico Rosberg and while he was trying to maneuver it back around,Liuzzi crashed over the top of him, spreading debris across the Yas Marina Circuit track. Liuzzi’s Force India car landed inches away from Schumacher’s head.

Both Liuzzi and Schumacher appeared to be unhurt in the collision.

Force India finished the season at seventh in the constructors standings with 68 points. Red Bull finished on top with 498 points.

With no point from the race today,Sutil failed to realise his aim of finishing in top 10 as he ended the championships at 11th on 47 points.

Liuzzi,on the other hand, finished 15th in the drivers overall position with 21 points.

Force India chairman and team principal Vijay Mallya was happy at the best-ever finish of his team in the constructors’ championship.

“Sixty eight points is something I,and the whole team, can take great personal pride in. When we bought the team we scored zero points the first year, then 13 last year and now more than five times that in 2010. We’ve really achieved our racing stripes and I hope that next year, with the Indian Grand Prix as a target, that we can go bigger and better. This is just the start for us,” Mallya said.

“I must extend my congratulations to Red Bull and to Sebastian Vettel on their wins this season, they have had a fantastic year,” he added.

Sutil rued that his team could not score a point today but expressed happiness at the seventh-place finish at the constructors championships.

“Not such an exciting race for me today as I was driving alone for a lot of the time and then had a late stop as we tried to make up some positions. I came out side by side to Rubens and lost a position, falling into 13th. It wouldn’t have made any difference as we needed points today and unfortunately we couldn’t get them. It was a good effort from the team and we tried our best, just the safety car period at the start was unlucky for us,” Sutil said.

“But thank you to the team for all their hard work this year and a big well done for getting 7th position. It’s our highest position as a team – and my highest in the championship – and shows just how far we’ve come in the last three years. Congratulations also to Sebastian for his great win today,” said the German.

Liuzzi said it was a disappointing race for him as he met with an accident.

“For me today was a bit of a disappointing end to what’s been a fantastic year for the team. I am sorry that we could not score any points today to get back to sixth in the championship but even so the team has worked so hard today and for the whole of the season. But congratulations to Sebastian on his first world title,” Liuzzi said.

“I had a good start, gaining a couple of positions and had got into a good place for the first stint, but then I came round the third corner and saw a cloud of smoke in front. I couldn’t move anywhere as there were cars all around me and then when the smoke cleared I saw Michael the wrong way round and stopped on track. I couldn’t do anything but thankfully we were both OK after the accident,” said the Italian while explaining how his car had a collision with the mercedes of Michael Schumacher.
