Narrow win for Sri Lanka in warm-up game

Sri Lanka squeezed out a four-wicket victory over Bangladesh with two balls to spare in their first warm-up game at Trent Bridge.

Mahela Jayawardene scored 43 off 28 balls after openers Tillakaratne Dilshan and Sanath Jayasuriya fumbled to carry their initial big-hitting spree. Bangladesh gave a good account in defence of 151 by picking wickets at regular intervals. As the required run-rate climbed to uncomfortable levels,the experienced Sri Lankan batsmen committed mistakes and match changed course drastically. Chamara Silva and Angelo Mathews,however,ensured Sri Lanka got the victory.

Gayle back in form

Chris Gayle returned to form with whirlwind innings of 88 against Ireland at The Oval. The left-handed opener smashed six fours and seven sixes in his 56-ball innings as West Indies cantered to a nine-wicket victory with four overs to spare.

McGlashan,Styris prop up NZ

Peter McGlashan (49) and Scott Styris (42) resurrected New Zealand’s faltering innings against Australia at Kensington Oval on Tuesday. Electing to bat first,the Kiwis were tottering at 21 for 5 by the sixth over when the duo got together and helped the team to 147.

Scotland post 136

Scotland posted 136 in their practice game against England at Trent Bridge. Batting first,the Scots lost openers Gavin Hamilton and Fraser Watts by the eighth over. Colin Smith played a captain’s innings of 45,helping the team go past the 130-run mark.
