Mukesh Ambani gets ‘Z’ category security cover

RIL chairman had received a threat letter from terrorist outfit Indian Mujahideen.

Two months after Reliance India Limited chairman Mukesh Ambani received a threat letter from terrorist outfit Indian Mujahideen,the Ministry of Home Affairs has sanctioned Z-plus security cover to him.

An armed commando unit of the Central Reserve Police Force will provide security cover to the business tycoon. The sanction comes on the orders of Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde,who is learnt to have personally monitored the case.

Under the Z category security,Ambani will have pilot and follow-on vehicles with commandos armed with sophisticated weapons and they will give him proximate security every time he moves in Mumbai or any other part of country. Sources said a security and threat analysis conducted by the Central security agencies recommended that Ambani should be provided round-the-clock armed security cover after which the MHA issued the orders.

The CRPF has earmarked a 28-member team for the task,culling personnel out from its battalion based in Uttar Pradesh. This is the first time that the CRPF will provide VIP security to a private person on the lines of a similar cover it extends to government functionaries in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab.

The Mumbai police are also planning to fortify Ambanis residential building Antilia. Following the threat letter received by Ambanis office,security in and around Antilia had been tightened.
