The Beaver,which is directed by Jodie Foster and stars Gibson as a depressed toy executive who gets his life on track with the help of a beaver hand puppet,has been chosen for the South by Southwest festival. In all,the festival is expected to screen about 125 feature-length films in Austin from March 11 to March 19. But none are likely to be watched as closely as The Beaver,which puts a spotlight on Gibson,even as he wages a fierce custody battle over a child by his ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva and awaits possible action by the Los Angeles County district attorney. The film was shot in 2009 and has been scheduled for a March 23 release by Summit Entertainment,after showing at South by Southwest on March 16.

the documentary that couldnt find a spot in the Oscar nominee list,is finally getting some recognition from the Directors Guild of America D.G.A. Following migrant factory workers who make a harrowing annual journey back to visit their home villages in China,Lixin Fans film is the only feature the D.G.A. nominated for best documentary that is not also on the Oscars shortlist. Last Train Home has,however,made a number of critics year-end lists. The winner for this and the feature directing category will be announced at the D.G.A. Awards dinner on January 29.

Hope campaigns long running legal battle between the street artist Shepard Fairey and The Associated Press has come to an end. Fairey,who sued The Associated Press pre-emptively in 2009 as it began to accuse him of infringement,claimed that he did not appropriate any copyrightable material and that his use of the photograph,which showed Obama at a National Press Club event in 2006,constituted a fair use under copyright law.Last year,Fairey admitted that he had misstated which A.P. photo he had used for the image and acknowledged that he had submitted false images and deleted others to conceal his actions,leading to a criminal investigation in addition to the civil case. In settling the civil lawsuit,The A.P. and Fairey have agreed that neither side surrenders its view of the law, The Associated Press said in a statement Wednesday.
