India and Pakistan are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding on countering the trafficking of drugs following talks between anti-narcotics officials of the two countries,officials said today.
A visiting seven-member Indian delegation headed by Narcotics Control Bureau Director General O P S Malik today met Pakistan¿s Anti-Narcotics Force chief Maj Gen Syed Shakeel Hussain in the federal capital.
Hussain informed the Indian delegation about the prevalent drug situation in Pakistan and steps being taken to counter the issue.
The meeting between the two sides is aimed at forging joint measures to fight the drug menace,an ANF official said.
The talks will conclude tomorrow with the signing of a memorandum of understanding on drug demand reduction and prevention of illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs,psychotropic substances and precursor chemicals.
The talks will focus on steps to reduce the supply and demand for drugs and bilateral cooperation on the issue.
During a meeting of the Home and Interior Secretaries of India and Pakistan held in New Delhi in March,the two sides agreed that talks between the anti-narcotics forces of both sides would be held annually and an MoU would be signed.
