A five-under start is something I would take any day and so it was at the Hero Honda Indian Open on Thursday. I would say it has been a job well begun and that felt extra special at the DLF Golf and Country Club this morning.
It was not the easiest of rounds, especially as my caddie,Scott Sajtinac, was taken ill during the round and had to be carried out after just six holes. I played with a replacement caddie, but that incident kind of unsettled me. I rushed my first putt and made a bogey on the 16 th hole after starting from the 10th.
I did keep the round together for the 67. I made some very good putts from the 12-18 feet range. I have always maintained that the key to any low round is putting. You need to make sure that you are not missing any short putts and also make a few long putts for a good round. The course and playing conditions were perfect for the morning groups and the scores showed that. Adam Blyth had a blistering round of 64,while Lee Sung started with a 65.
I have won the PGA Championship here, and to win the national open of the country where I started playing golf is an ambition for me. If well begun is half done,I think I am almost there with the opening-round 67.
