Gareth Bale to Real Madrid CF – A dream move?

At Tottenham,Bale is the star their main, sometimes only, attacking threat.

No voy a parar hasta ganar la Décima (I am not going to stop until we win the tenth), were the words echoed by Florentino Perez,President of Real Madrid, during the launch of the book Zidane: The Elegance of a Plain Hero.

Perez was elected President in 2000 on the back of his Galacticos campaign. Madrids transfer policy since has been dictated, primarily,by his ambition to restore Real Madrid to its rightful place in world football. Zidanes signing (reminiscent of the pursuit of Gareth Bale) proved to be an obsession for Perez. So much so that in order to get Zidanes attention at a Monte Carlo Sports Club he handed him a napkin with the words,do you want to play for Real Madrid? 53 million later, then a world record fee,and Perez had his man. To commemorate his return to the post in 2009 Perez signed Ronaldo for 80 million, another world record, this despite Sir Alex Fergusons steadfast stance You dont think wed get into a contract with that mob (Madrid) do you? Jesus Christ,I wouldnt sell them a virus.

Perez has a track record of beating clubs into submission when it comes to signing their most prized assets. His latest adversary,Daniel Levy,Chairman of Tottenham Hotspur,is infamous for beating clubs into agreeing to his terms and fees. If Perez were to hand Gareth Bale a napkin,it will be intercepted by Levy who,Im sure by now has contracted a virus and in all probability will use the napkin to discharge his nasal fluid and toss it right back. If,however that napkin were worth 100 million (as reported in certain sections of the media) Levy would be a fool to not respectfully fold it into his pocket. With the money,Tottenham will not only be able to afford a host of talented players but also realize their dream of a new stadium.

In a recent interview to Le 10 Sport Zidane was quoted,The chance to play for Real Madrid might only come around once in a players lifetime and it is understandable that Gareth doesnt want to miss out. Zidanes statement could not have been more pertinent. It underscores the view that if Gareth Bale wants to develop as a player he needs to be playing with the best. Moreover if he wants to be recognized as one of footballs all time greats he needs to be winning titles, opportunities that only Madrid (some would argue Barcelona) can offer. Of the past 16 Ballon dOr winners only two have not played for Real Madrid or Barcelona.

At Tottenham,Gareth Bale is the star their main, sometimes only, attacking threat. Zidanes recent comments there is nothing more prestigious for a player than to wear the white of Real Madrid were certainly directed at Gareth Bale. Move to Madrid, and Gareth Bale will not only have to establish himself among other star players but also vindicate his price tag to the Madridistas and the Spanish media; who are a far less patient bunch. The pressure at Madrid is immense but the ability to develop as a player is limitless; just ask Ronaldo.

After Neymar signed for Barcelona,Real Madrid are now second to their archrivals not only in La Liga but also in procuring this summers most prized talent. The signing of Gareth Bale could change all that. Is it Gareth Bales dream to play for Madrid? That we may never know. What we do know though is that Perez will not stop until he realizes his dream of la decima. Hala Madrid.
