Ferguson dismisses speculations that Rooney will be leaving the club at the end of the season.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has dismissed speculations that star striker Wayne Rooney will be leaving the club at the end of the season, and hinted at a new deal for the player in the summer. Ferguson8217;s decision to drop Rooney from the side to face Real Madrid during their Champions League defeat had caused uncertainty regarding the forward8217;s long-term future, the Guardian reports. However,Ferguson has ruled out the possibility that Rooney will be leaving United in the summer with two years left on his contract, and hinted that United may open negotiations with Rooney over an extension of his contract. Rebuffing rumours of a spat between himself and Rooney,Ferguson said that Rooney will be in the club next year, and dismissed suggestions that they do not speak to each other even on the training ground. The Scot added that Rooney knew and understood the reasons for not playing him in the match against Madrid, which he added, was tactically correct. Meanwhile, despite Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini praising Rooney as one of the best strikers in Europe,United8217;s neighbours have no interest in offering a deal to Rooney if he left United this summer, mainly due to the massive costs involved, the report added.
