India 2nd in Test rankings
Australias series-levelling triumph over South Africa in Johannesburg has helped India rise a rung to the second spot in ICCs latest Test rankings. The 1-1 result pushed South Africa to the third spot with 116 rating points,a point less than India. England occupy the top spot with 125 rating points,while Australia are placed fourth with 105 ratings points. Sri Lanka complete the top-five with 99 points followed by Pakistan (98).
Lorgat declines extension
The Chief Executive of ICC Haroon Lorgat wont seek an extension once he finishes his current stint next year. A media release issued by ICC stated: ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat has informed the ICC Nominations Committee that he will not seek to renew his term of office which expires on 30 June 2012. Although Pawar had offered Lorgat a three-year extension to his current term,he chose only one and now feels that its the time to move on.
Asnodkar gets a reprieve
Swapnil Asnodkars plea for forgiveness after his decision to go for a draw against Maharashta after opposing the advice of the team management and coach,has been accepted by the Goa Cricket Association (GCA),which has decided to lift the ban imposed on him. Swapnil has accepted his mistake and his plea for forgiveness was accepted and decided to remove the ban imposed on him, said GCA secretary Prasad Phaterpekar.
Wadekar gets BCCI award
Former India captain Ajit Wadekar will be honoured with the Col CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement trophy at the annual BCCI awards ceremony to be held in Chennai on December 10. The award will comprise a trophy,citation and cheque for Rs. 15 lakhs. The 70-year-old Wadekar,who represented India in 37 Tests and scored 2113 runs,expressed his jubilation at receiving the honour.
Zaheer should be match fit
Zaheer Khan cannot take his place for granted,feels former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram. Zaheer has been out of cricket for a long time and unfit as well. He has started working in the nets,but bowling in the middle is an entirely different thing. He must play loads of domestic cricket and the selectors must monitor him closely, he said.
