The club’s hierarchy had suggested that a defensive coach should be brought in to help stabilize Arsenal’s leaky defence.

But after watching his side squeeze past Shrewsbury 3-1 in the Carling Cup,Wenger rejected any idea of appointing a new coach.

I’ve just completed 30 years of coaching. I don’t want to answer this kind of question, the Daily Mail quoted him,as saying.

Whether I work for the next 10 years or the next day I will give my maximum for the club and let others focus on the situation. I am completely focused on doing well. I can understand that people are unhappy and criticize but I know people are quick to go overboard, he added.

Wenger is coming under pressure from fans after their worst start to the season for 58 years.

Ivan Gazidis, the chief executive of the club, however told Arsenal fans that Wenger will continue to recruit young talent instead of established stars, and backed his transfer policy.

”It’s not a sentimental thing with Arsene – – we have a manager who has delivered success over a long period of time. We don’t throw something like that away easily and if we did we would be fools. We have support for the manager and his vision – – it’s what’s right for the club. He will not have a rush of blood to the head or walk out. He will not leave and we will not push him out, he added.
