Alok Kumar wins National Sr Billiards title

It was a tooth and nail battle in the summit clash which lasted five hours.

Alok Kumar of PSPB today clinched the National Senior Billiards title by outplaying world champion Pankaj Advani 5-4 in a keenly contested final at the P Y C Hindu Gymkhana.

In first frame Alok,playing with white ball,started the best-of-nine encounter on a winning note.

Advani started grabbing top table position quickly but gave an open table to Alok. But latter failed to grab the opportunity and missed white in-off on very next shot scoring three points only.

Advani then scored 135 break to seal the game in his favour 151-03.

In the second frame,Alok replied with fast shots and smashed 152 break to level the match 1-1 and in the next frame Advani started with break but missed on 13 leaving cannon position for Alok.

Alok scored just 37 and Advani marched ahead to craft 135 to get a 2-1 lead.

Alok started with break in the fourth frame and started scoring on top-table. Advani then returned again,scoring a single cannon.

But Advani failed to capitalise on the opportunity and Alok scored a break of 81 to level the match two-all and then bagged the next frame to go ahead 3-2.

The crucial sixth frame saw both the players struggling.

Alok wanted to raise the lead and Advani was surprised with an unexpected fight from his opponent who is generally known for his snooker skills.

The match was levelled when it entered into the decider frame. Advani tried hard but missed and Alok cashed on the opportunity to clinch the title.
