When Kings XI Punjab battle it out against Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday in Jaipur, the contest will be quite interesting. Even though the Shane Warne led team outplayed Punjab in Mohali few days back convincingly,Kumar Sangakkaras men having beaten Kolkata comprehensively on Sunday are hoping to slip into spoiler mode again.
On paper, the Punjab side have always looked good. In fact, its hard to believe the win against Kolkata was only their second in nine matches, especially with batsmen such as Yuvraj Singh,Mahela Jayawardene,Kumar Sangakkara,Shaun Marsh and Ravi Bopara in the squad.
While the Punjab camp have vehemently denied all rumours of a rift that surfaced as they went from one loss to the other, one problem they have definitely had is an inability to find the right spots for their batting stars.
Jayas opening burst
When Marsh was ruled out of the last clash at the last minute,Jayawardene had coaxed the captain and coach to let him open the batting ahead of Bopara who had played that role a few times in the earlier games. The century that followed at least means they have one problem less going into their last five games.
Their opponents, the Rajasthan Royals, too are brimming with confidence after a thrilling two-run win over defending champions Deccan Chargers on Monday, with captain Shane Warne himself engineering a brilliant turnaround in a match that looked like a lost cause.
With players such as Shane Watson,Yusuf Pathan,Naman Ojha and Siddharth Trivedi coming good, the Royals will know that a win here will put them in with a serious shot of making the semis.
